Kelp Carbon Sequestration
Evaluating the verifiable carbon sink potential of cultivated macroalgae.
Macroalgae (kelp) grows rapidly, absorbing significant amounts of dissolved CO2. However, for this to be considered true sequestration (and viable for carbon credits), the biomass must be sunk to the deep ocean (abyssal plains) where the carbon is locked away for centuries, rather than harvested and metabolized back into the atmosphere.
